I grew up in Syracuse, NY. I moved to Evanston, IL to attend Northwestern University where I earned my
B.A. in psychology. I spent the following years volunteering and working in the Chicago Public School System.
I then began my doctoral degree in clinical psychology (Ph.D.) at American University in Washington, DC. During graduate school, I completed specialized coursework and training in various forms of therapy including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness, and interpersonal. I came to Madison, WI for my internship and residency, and I have been living and working here since then.
I believe that emotional healing often comes through developing a more complete understanding of one's present concerns. Also, there may be strategies that can help mitigate the symptoms and feelings of distress. Thus, my approach often includes an in-depth, insight-oriented exploration of what may be unconscious or unknown patterns in your life, combined with the use of specific techniques and interventions that have been empirically-supported by the research on psychotherapy outcomes. Although this describes my general approach, my work with any individual client (individual, couple or group) is always collaborative, purposeful, and personalized.
As of the Spring 2013, I have opened a general private practice in Madison, WI where I am accepting new clients for both individual and couples therapy. I hold broad areas of interest and specialty, including life transitions and relationship concerns of all kinds, identity questions, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, sexual assault, trauma, and pain. I also have specialized training in group therapy, as well as in sport psychology.
